self Review

segment 1

1. A team is a group of individuals who work together to accomplish a common goal, and whose work is mutually dependent.
2. working in teams can improve employee moral and lower the turnover rate of employees.
3. a department or a functional group is a group of employees that are responsible for a specific aspect of company operation, such as sales or accounting.

Segment 2
1. A successful team has purpose, commitment, process, communication, trust andrespect.
2.  Every team must have a leader so the team members know whn they have done what they were suppose to do.
3. A team differs from a traditional heirarchy in that each member has an equal voice.

segment 3
1. The first step in the six-step problem solving process is to identify the problem.
2. teams try to generate ideas to a problem by using brainstorming.
3. when the best solution has been chosen it must be implemented.
4. three idea generation methods are brainstorming, fishbone diagram, and flow charting.
5. a flow chart shows the step in process.
6. brainstorming requires that the recorder for the team record every idea the tem comes up with.
7. when brainstorming it is a good idea to piggyback off onto other ones.
8. when brainstorming, wild ideas should never be discarded

segment 4
1.when team members are left out of the decision-making pro cess thier value to the team is diminished.
unanimity occurs when all team members completly agree on a decision.
3. minority rule occurs when not all members completly agree on the decision being made.
4. to start to build a team consensus, the team leader or facilitator should restate the goal.
5. the seond step of building consensus is to narrow the number of possible solution.

Team Concept Objectives

1. Define a team and explain its benefits.
A team is group of people who accomplish goals. the benefits are you get work done quickly and you can gain communicative skills
2.  Describe six types of work groups and give an application of each type.
Department or Functional groups- responsible for an array of work, they possess similar skills apllications can be paying bills
Committees- like functional groups but they possess different skills. they investigate, advise, and report findings
Task force- Brings together many different skills from several departments to develop a solution. there are two departments.
Process Improvement-like a task force in that it is usually made up of people from different departments and is charged with solving a problem.
Working Group- Is similar to a committee in how it functions. made up of employees from different companies to look at an industry-wide problem or issue.
Teams- is the traditional task force
3. describe the five characteistics of a successful team.
Purpose-  is measurable and defines any constraints or expected results
Commitment- individuals who stick with the group to the  end, and they accept the task at hands
Process- method used by teams to fufill the purpose.
Communication- most valuable asset in a team: have meetings, solution logs, e-mails, e.t.c.
Trust and Respect- the fundamental  to creating  an environment where the results of the team will truly be more than what  indivduals members could accomplish.
4. Describe the basic structure of a team.
the basic structure of a team  is the leader and the employees. if the leader is good then you ngot a goood team. also good communication skills.
5. Describe positive and negative team member behaviors.
Negative would be a member that is lazy or bring other team members down
Positive  team member is somebody who likes to work, encourage others and has good communciative skills.
6. Describe a six-step problem solving process.
   1. Define the problem- define the goal
   2. Collect data- collect of research information about the problem
   3. Create possibele solutions- basically making examples
   4. Choosing a solution- choose he best example
   5. implement the solution- make or perform the solutions
   6. test the solutions
7. describe three idea generation Methods
Brainstorming is basically you generating ideas with your team.
Flow Charts- is a graphic, or pictorial, method of showing the steps in a process.
fishbone diagrams- is a method of organizing potential causes of a problem.
8. Describe how to perform brainstorming.
There are five steps to brainstorming. first you assign responsibilties to your team. after you do that then you choose the task. then you start identifying ideas. next you record all ideas. last you organize the ideas.
9. Describe five decision-making procedures and give an advantage of each.
Majority rule- basically more votes than the other the advantage is that its democracy.
Minority rule- basically the people who have more knowledge on the assignment then you. there the leaders.
autocracy- only one person make the decision.
Unanimity- All team members must vote for the same thing.
10. Describe how a team reaches an agreement through consensus.
well first they give some ideas. then briefly go over so that everybody can understand it. then we make a decision.

Sketch up reflection

1/24/13

Sketchup  is a good program. i learned that this program makes sketching easier. Instead of me having to erase on paper i can make a whole bunch. also the the different types of button you can use to help you out. such as the pull/push button. it allows you to make shapes  bigger and longer. Its a great concept. I can see myself using this in the future. this is an engineers wonderland.

Notes

1.      2d drawings are limited to the paper they are drawn on.

2.      Sketch up lets you make 3d sketches.

3.       Orbit button allows you to look around the sketch.

4.      With this you can really detail your sketch.

5.      The zoom button allows you look at sketches closely.

6.      Pan button allow you to move the sketch back and forth.

7.      Orbit , zoom and pan are all navigation tools.

8.      You must be able to move around in 3d space easily using these tools.

9.      The rectangle tool allows you to draw rectangles.

10.  The push and pull button allows you to make shape 3d.

11.  Basically making the 3d.

12.  In sketchup the tools will snap or “infer” to corners, edges and other geometry.

13.   Sketchup makes drawing easier.

14.  The paint bucket allow you to make different designs and color fonts.

15.  This is an awesome concept.

16.  Any drawing you make on sketch up you can make shadows.

17.  Also you can to the the window menu and make different shadows.

18.  You can use the pencil button to precisely put your shapes at.

19.  If you press the window tab you can make different styles.

20.  There also a blueprint mode

21.  On blueprint mode you can see inside the drawing.

22.  Sketch up innovates the mind of everybody.

23.  There are many different textures.

24.  Sketchup is easy to use.

25.  Using the pencil mode is an easy concept.

26.  Sketchup allows you to make 2d floor drawings realistic.

27.  This program changes everything about sketching.

28.  This is a good program for engineers.

29.  Make houses are like easy minded things on here.

30.  Sketchup the next big thing
